Accurate 3D Grade Guidance Across the Jobsite

GNSS RTK positioning allows the excavator to move around the jobsite while maintaining its project position and elevation reference. The operator can monitor the bucket position and the required cut or fill information directly from the in-cab display.

Projects can be created directly in the field for plane surfaces, ramps, pitches, single slopes, dual slopes and defined foundation areas. The excavator bucket can also be used to measure distances relative to project reference points and lines.

The Android-based Stonex interface connects the system components and gives operators a clear, real-time view of the excavation process. Its straightforward workflow makes 3D machine guidance accessible to operators who are adopting excavator grade control for the first time.

Product Advantages

Advantages of the Stonex STX-DIG 3D Easy Machine Control System

The Stonex STX-DIG 3D Easy combines GNSS RTK positioning, real-time bucket guidance and intuitive Android software to help excavator operators work more accurately, efficiently and confidently.

Real-Time 3D Bucket Guidance

View the bucket position, excavation depth and target surface directly on the in-cab display. Continuous guidance helps the operator maintain the required grade throughout the excavation process.

Improved Excavation Accuracy

GNSS RTK positioning helps operators follow project elevations, slopes and excavation boundaries with greater consistency while reducing over-excavation and under-excavation.

Greater Jobsite Productivity

Operators can complete digging, grading and leveling work with fewer interruptions for manual grade checks, helping machines remain productive for more of the working day.

Reduced Rework and Operating Costs

Accurate grade information can help minimize repeated excavation, unnecessary material movement and corrective work, supporting more efficient use of labor, equipment and fuel.

Full Mobility with GNSS RTK

The excavator can move around the jobsite while maintaining its position relative to the digital project. Operators do not need to repeatedly transfer the elevation reference each time the machine is repositioned.

Simple Android-Based Operation

Stonex machine control software provides a clear and accessible interface for monitoring the bucket, creating surfaces and managing excavation parameters from the cab.

Field-Created Surfaces and Slopes

Create flat surfaces, ramps, pitches, single slopes, dual slopes and defined foundation areas directly in the field without relying on a complex office-built model for every task.

Support for Blind and Underwater Digging

The calculated bucket position remains visible on the display when the cutting edge cannot be seen directly, making blind excavation and underwater digging easier to monitor.

Suitable for Excavators and Mini Excavators

The flexible system can be installed on a wide range of excavator sizes and configurations, including standard mono-boom and two-piece articulated-boom machines.

Scalable Machine Control Solution

The system provides an accessible entry point into 3D excavator grade control while supporting future machine control requirements as projects and operational needs develop.

Work Faster, Smarter and More Precisely

Stonex STX-DIG 3D Easy gives operators the information needed to manage excavation depth, elevation and slope from inside the cab. The result is a more streamlined workflow, improved finished work quality and simpler control of complex excavation tasks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Stonex STX-DIG 3D Easy Excavator Grade Control System obtain elevation data from GNSS, or is a laser receiver required?

This depends on the operating mode.

In 1D or 2D mode, the system uses a laser reference plane. When the excavator is repositioned, the operator aligns the laser receiver mounted on the excavator stick with the laser plane to re-establish the elevation reference.

In 2.5D mode, the system obtains elevation data through the GNSS antenna using an NTRIP correction signal. In this configuration, a laser receiver on the excavator stick and a separate laser level are not required.

How are the angle sensors attached to the machine for the Stonex STX-DIG 3D Easy Excavator Grade Control System?

The angle sensors are mounted to the machine using weld-on mounting brackets supplied with the system.

The sensors are designed for fast response, reliable operation, and easy installation. Key features include:

  • Compact size
  • Minimal latency of less than 40 milliseconds
  • The same sensor type for all machine components
  • Simple installation
  • Internal heating element
  • Cast-aluminum housing
  • Three-axis gyroscope
  • Integrated inertial measurement unit (IMU)
How does the Stonex STX-DIG 3D Easy system determine the excavator’s direction or heading?

The STX-DIG system determines the excavator’s heading using two passive GNSS antennas mounted on the cab roof. These antennas connect to a dual-antenna GNSS receiver integrated with the Android tablet.

When the system is used in standalone 2D mode without an NTRIP or local base-station correction signal, the GNSS antennas function as a heading sensor rather than as a source of precise positioning data.

This allows the system to detect the excavator’s rotation with a heading accuracy of approximately 0.2 degrees.
